Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy

The Art & Science of Remedy Preparation: Ensuring Purity, Potency & Efficacy

About the Department

The Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy at S. M. Deo Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital trains BHMS students in the scientific preparation, standardization, dispensing, and quality control of homoeopathic medicines. It ensures that remedies are prepared as per Hahnemannian principles — maintaining purity, dynamization, and therapeutic power.

The subject is taught mainly in the First and Second BHMS years, covering pharmacognosy, sources of drugs, vehicles, potentization techniques, scales of potency, drug proving standards, and legal aspects (Drugs & Cosmetics Act, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India – HPI).

Practical training includes hands-on preparation of mother tinctures, triturations, dilutions, dispensing methods, and laboratory analysis, preparing students to handle pharmacy in clinical practice and dispensing units.
