Shalya Tantra: Homoeopathic Approach to Surgical Conditions & Para-Surgical Procedures

About the Department

The Department of Surgery (Shalya Tantra) at S. M. Deo Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital teaches the principles and practice of surgery from an Homoeopathic and homoeopathic perspective. It focuses on conservative management of surgical conditions using homoeopathic medicines, para-surgical procedures (Kshara, Agnikarma, Jalaukavacharana, etc.), and when necessary, indications for modern surgical referral.

Taught mainly in Third and Final BHMS years, the subject covers general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, ano-rectal disorders, urinary disorders, and wound management – with emphasis on homoeopathic remedies for inflammation, suppuration, healing, pain relief, and prevention of complications.

Practical training includes clinical examination, minor procedures observation, case discussions, and exposure to surgical OPD/IPD in the attached hospital, preparing students to manage many surgical conditions conservatively with homoeopathy.
